This all started in December 1992, when I moved to Torquay,South Devon that year. I took a trip back home and went back down Attercliffe after hearing they had built the Sheffield Tram System. This now ran right through where our house was on Chippingham street. It was this that inspired me to take a series of pictures around the area of Attercliffe. It was late and the light wasn't too good but I had them developed and relived my memories looking through them. It was then that I decided to put them into a sort of story order - starting at picture one and so on. I wrote what is in the picture, what was once there and my memories surrounding that area. I then typed all this up on an old electric typewriter and that was that. There were no p.c's back then and it seemed near impossible to do anything else with it.
Then in March 2007 a friend told me about YouTube, so I had a look. That was when I had the idea of putting my pictures and stories down on video and uploading them. I thought I would do a couple of videos and see - not thinking that it would go anywhere. But I was pleased to be doing something with it. So I sat down, put on my favorite flat cap and reading glasses (my tribute to the late Fred Dibnah) and started recording. Nothing was rehearsed, just off the cuff and then I put a link on the Sheffield Forum. To my surprise I had some exc feedback, so I carried on with it, making around four to five videos a weekend. I finally finished them in July the same year.
I have made some exc friends through my site and the Sheffield Forum and Sheffield History sites. Hopefully it has brought good memories back to the people viewing them, and I would like to thank everybody who has watched them and who will watch them in the future. I have recorded them in one take and hopefully got some good humour across with the facts that I remember at a young age. My YouTube videos were also mentioned in the Sheffield Star paper and I had the pleasure of appearing on Rony Robinson's Show on BBC Radio Sheffield, promoting my YouTube project. So thank you to those involved too.
The idea is to start at video intro, then video one, two, three and so on. Please take a look, the link and screenshots are below but all my links can be found on the links page.
