Comment: I used to live on Tockwith Road, not very far from Chippingham Street and went to St Charles School on Heppenstall Lane. Your article on the BBC website brought back soo many happy memories; Banners, Attercliffe Baths / The Library! the Rads, oh my god spent quite a bit of time there even up to my teenage years. My brother and his friends used to call themselves the Shirland Lane gang bless 7-8 year olds who just went on adventures by the Don. The Roman Centurion at the bottom of Staniforth Road, it's still there to this day. The Cliffe was a great place to grow up. My mother lives on Eleanor street and I often drive up Chippingham Street on my way home. Thanks for nostalgia trip

There's nothing like a bit of nostalgia to warm the heart. I was born in Sheffield in 1966 and though I left to join the forces in 1982, I still visit my parents regularly who live in Hackenthorpe. I lived on Titterton Street for many years since childhood then married a lad who lived on the same street and we married and moved to Makin Road. Stunning memories of Brown Bayleys, baths, library, church, under the aqueduct bridge filled with water watching the cars trying to get through, playing "four wheels" on Worksop Rd. Tom Freeman, coalman on Shirland Lane was my husband's grandad - wish I had the time to write about it all like you. Brialiant stuff!! Good 'n ya!!

Almost opposite where banners was. My mom had her name in gold writing on the shop "N.SALT" and was there years later till it was knocked down..... Comment: Well done great website . Used to live on Beall Street ,just off Chipingham , from 63 till 78 . Great times . Still go for a pint down there but not many pubs left . Kings Head got some great pics of the Attercliffe in the 60,s , 70s , worth a look . Keep up the work Andy .

I was born on Shirland lane in 1957 Just behind the Queens Head, Only a few doors away from Mr and Mrs Freeman the coalman, and their son Tom, who was very kind to me as a six year old, and would let me sit in the drivers seat of the red coal lorry he drove Could anyone help with any photo's of Osborn Hadfields? I served my apprenticeship there with my Dad, but never took any photo's, now i am desperate to find any i can!. Fantastic memory site, Thank you!!!

Comment: hi caught the radio interveiw fantastic .i was brought up on jessel street oposite woodbourn school for the first six years of my life from 72-78 and always remember it as a happy time, always seemed like there was plenty to do .i also got dragged round hitchens can you remember cutters corner .recently retuned my self and took pictures of my old school Hammerton school it was called derelict now but a fantastic building .great site hope it keeps growing i have a certain affinity with the cliffe even though i was only there for a short time regards julian

Comment: I moved to 'Attercliffe/Darnall' recently into a small bungalow at Ouse road side. I was born and bred in North Sheffield. I found your website and decided to go and discover where you once lived. It was wonderful.I could feel; as i wandered around; the lovely community that once lived there. The canal was soothing and a canal barge came past too. It is such a shame certain places are littered with rubbish from people who do not appreciate such a wonderful part of Sheffield.

Comment: Just seen your web site and it brought lots of memories back to me.i was born on newhall road in 1951 and lived at the back of the fishing tackle shop in the same yard as rose's chip shop. The best fish and chips you could buy (when you could afford them) which wasn't very often.anyone remember the adelphi picture house? or turners' newsagents.I remember going to slipper baths on saturday mornings instead of having a bath in front of fire in a tin bath.I went to maltby st. school till about 12 years old then we all had to go to park house school at tinsley because they were closing our school down.keep up the good work andy.

My ancestor appears on the 1811 poor rate assessment record - a shoemaker - poor - and is marked as not benefiting from an enclosure. I wondered what it was and your site provided information. So thanks for that. His son was a pen and pocket knife manufacturer in attercliffe - appears in a few directories - William Redforth. Best wishes: Seth
